Every client starts here, and some clients leave without booking anything else.

The Movement Assessment is the one thing on this site everybody actually has to do. It's how Totex checks whether a group technique class, one-to-one coaching, or a return-to-activity program is appropriate before any of them get booked, and it's the only place clearance gets confirmed on file.

Who gets turned away at this visit

The assessment exists to catch this before class, not during it. Clients with an active injury, an uncontrolled cardiac condition, or a pregnancy complication flagged by their doctor are not booked into a class or a program at the assessment. Anyone heading toward the return-to-activity program needs a signed doctor's clearance letter on file, and the front desk will ask for it before the assessment is scheduled if that program is the goal. Totex teaches movement technique, not medical care: it does not diagnose, and it does not replace a doctor or a physical therapist.

An assessment at the Austin studio runs forty-five minutes, is filmed the same way every class and coaching session is, and covers three things: a short intake conversation about what brought you in and what your doctor has and hasn't cleared, a set of basic movement checks on camera, and a plain conversation afterward about what Totex thinks fits and what it doesn't. Some people leave with a class booked. Some leave with a coach's note to check with their doctor first and come back later. Both outcomes happen regularly and neither is treated as a failure on either side.

This is not a diagnostic exam and no diagnosis gets written down. A coach is watching how you walk, squat, hinge and reach, not scoring a joint or naming a condition. If something during the assessment looks like it needs a doctor's opinion rather than a coach's cue, the coach says so and the session ends there, with a referral back to your physician rather than a workaround.

What the forty-five minutes covers

  1. Intake conversation, ten minutes

What brought you in, any current or past injuries, medications that affect balance or exertion, and whether your doctor has cleared or restricted anything. This is where a return-to-activity clearance letter gets checked against the file if you brought one.

  2. Filmed movement checks, twenty-five minutes

A walk across floor markers, a bodyweight squat to your comfortable depth, a hinge pattern, and a short standing balance check. Nothing loaded, nothing timed, nothing scored against a chart. The camera runs so the coach can point at a frame during the conversation that follows.

  3. The plain conversation, ten minutes

The coach tells you directly what they saw, what class or program fits, and what doesn't yet. If the answer is "not yet," you get a reason and, where it applies, what needs to happen first — usually a doctor's note or more time.

Why it's a flat fee and not folded into a class card

Group classes and coaching sessions are billed on a per-class or per-session basis because they're ongoing. The assessment is a single event that happens once, regardless of which program follows it, so it's priced flat rather than as part of any card. $110 covers a straightforward first visit; $140 covers one that runs long because a clearance letter needs a follow-up call to the referring doctor's office, or because English isn't the client's first language and the conversation takes longer to get right. Neither number is negotiable mid-visit — the front desk quotes the range before you book, not after.

Clients who've already had an assessment at another studio don't get to skip this one. Totex hasn't seen your footage, doesn't know this coach's read on your position, and won't take another studio's clearance note as a substitute for its own filmed check.
